Bassoon Reed Profile Dimensions
I offer 3 styles of Bassoon reed profiles for processed cane:
Standard, Tip-Taper, and Wedge-Scrape.
Standard Profile
The Standard Profile is a tip-tapered reed profile with 2 different slope profiles across the reed blade. The ‘critical point’ measurement 1/2” from the fold (19.3mm from the collar) is 0.026” or 0.68mm.
Tip-Tapered Profile
The Tip-Taper Profile is much closer to what many would consider a Parallel-scrape with 2 slope profiles across the reed blade. From 18mm to 32mm (at the fold), the slope is the same as the Standard Profile. The ‘critical point’ measurement 1/2” from the fold (19.3mm from the collar) is 0.026” or 0.68mm.
Wedge-Scrape Profile
The Wedge-Scrape Profile has only 1 slope profile across the reed blade. The collar measurement is 0.90 mm and 0.35mm at the fold. The ‘critical point’ measurement 1/2” from the fold (19.3mm from the collar) is 0.022” or 0.57mm.
