Music Lessons with Cullen

Cullen Blain provides supportive, personalized bassoon instruction for students in the San Diego area, helping musicians build confidence, strong fundamentals, and a love of music. Lessons are tailored to each student’s pace and goals, with guidance on technique, reeds, and practice habits that support success in school ensembles, youth orchestras, and auditions. Cullen works closely with families to create a positive and encouraging learning experience.

Lesson Details & Tuition
All lessons are held in-person or online.

  • 60-minute weekly lesson

  • 45-minute weekly lesson

Tuition is billed monthly, due the first week of each month.

Double Reed Programs– Great for Schools!
Group lessons for beginning and advancing oboe & bassoon students

  • Musicianship (Music Theory for all ) – Not just chords and part writing, it’s all about how to perform the music and how to express the music

  • Oboe, Bassoon, & Double Reed Ensembles – Small chamber groups or summer bassoon band for advanced students

  • Instrument Demos & School Programs – Need more double reeds in your school program, need help with recruitment, or an instructor? I can help.

  • Reed Making (in person or remote) – You don’t have to be a reed geek to learn the basics of reed adjustments or go and literally harvest your own reed cane…

  • Double Reed Days – performances, master classes, and more!
